Motivating high school and middle school students can be TOUGH. I’ve found that there are a few things that motivate them – food, freedom, and extra credit. These can work how you want them to work in your classroom. BUT! These can work for all grade levels!
You may want to use them as behavior rewards, rewards for a good grade on a test, or you may just want to use them for daily use. There are bathroom passes, snack passes, drink passes, extra credit, headphones passes, etc.
I like to give out a few bathroom passes each quarter, so I use the ones from this packet to copy and give students. If a student is doing well, I may give them extra passes to use throughout the year.
Or let’s say a student earns extra credit. I’m the worst at keeping up with it. Make them responsible. Give them an extra credit slip and tell them to staple it to the next assignment.
There’s a spot on each pass for the teacher to sign and initial and to record who the pass was given to and when. This way, students don’t share passes. It’s totally up to you how you choose to use them in your classroom. Share your ideas in the comments!
